Privacy policy
Last updated 20 October 2026
Mothersteader LLC runs mothersteader.com. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and who else handles it.
What is collected
- When you buy something. Checkout happens on a page run by Stripe, which acts as the seller of record and processes the payment through Link. Stripe collects your name, email address, billing details and payment information under its own privacy policy. I receive your name, email address, country and what you bought. I never see or store your full card number.
- When your order is delivered. Your name, email address and order are passed to Resend, the service that sends the delivery email.
- Your Canning Pantry app key. When you buy the Canning Pantry app, the Mothersteader license service (run on Cloudflare) creates your key and records your email address and order number. It stores the key itself only in scrambled (hashed) form. When you open the app with your key, it sends the key, a random ID made up by your browser and a short device label such as "iPhone Safari", so it can keep to the 3-device limit. About once a month it checks the key again.
- If you bought on Etsy. The claim page sends your Etsy order number and email to the license service, which checks the order with Etsy and emails you your app key.
- What you put in the app. Your pantry, plans, notes, favorites, zone, canner and elevation stay on your device. They are never sent to me or anyone else.
- When you ask for the free recipes or buy the app. Your email address goes to the license service (a Cloudflare Worker run by Mothersteader) so it can email you a key, and the service keeps a record of which key belongs to which address and which devices it is used on. It never stores your card details.
- When you tick the canning tips box. The exact wording you saw and the time you ticked it are stored with your address, and your address is added to the Mothersteader list in Resend. The box is never pre-ticked. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you get a confirmation email first, and nothing is sent until you tap it.
- When you email me. I keep your message and email address so I can answer you and help with your order.
- When you visit the site. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own.
How it is used
To deliver what you bought, send you new products you are entitled to (for example, as a Full Library owner), answer your questions, handle refunds, and keep the business records the law requires. I do not sell your information, and I do not add you to a marketing list without asking you first.
The canning tips list
If you tick the box, you get occasional emails about canning and new Mothersteader tools. Every one carries an unsubscribe link and a postal address for Mothersteader LLC, as the law requires. Unsubscribe once and you get no more. Buying something or asking for the free recipes never puts you on the list by itself.
Who else handles it
- Stripe and Link, for payments, tax and fraud prevention.
- Resend, for delivery emails, the free-recipes email and the canning tips list.
- Cloudflare, which also runs the license service that issues and checks app keys.
- Cloudflare, for hosting the site and the license service.
- Etsy, if you bought there; the license service asks Etsy whether your order includes The Canning Pantry: App Access.
- Google, if you copy a Sheet into your own Google Drive. That copy lives in your account and I cannot see it.
How long it is kept
Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is usually several years. Email conversations are kept while they are useful for supporting your order.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information I hold about you by writing to hello@mothersteader.com. Some order records have to be kept for tax purposes even after a deletion request.
Children
This site is meant for adults buying for their household. It is not directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it.
